Canon S330 Color Bubble Jet Printer

The S330 prints accurate, clean text at an above-average speed of 5.9 pages per minute. The consumables cost is fairly low, too, at 2.3 cents per text page (according to vendor estimates of yield per ink cartridge). Though its gray-scale and color prints on plain paper didn't wow us, quality took a big jump on glossy photo paper, showing fine detail and rich color. Those are impressive capabilities in a $100 printer not intended primarily for photos. Canon's set-up poster and printed manual provide clear, detailed help for getting started; and an extensive on-screen manual covers the driver's features, troubleshooting issues, and the bundled applications in depth.
The S330 makes a racket--during printing and even when it's idle and making various adjustments. Like many of Canon's inexpensive ink jets, the S330 has paper supports that readily fall out when you move the printer or pick up your prints.
Canon bundles several of its own programs that should appeal to digital camera users, such as Easy-PhotoPrint (for creating documents that use photos) and PhotoStitch (for combining photos of adjacent scenes into panoramic images). Though the printer driver's screens are somewhat complex, they provide access to a rich feature set, including support for duotone printing.
Good text, good-enough photos, and a low price make the S330 a fine printer for home users.
