EMC announced Tuesday that it is expanding its Mozy online backup service with a new option targeted primarily at small businesses. MozyPro for Mac will let companies that use Macs back up their information automatically and securely at a remote location.

The MozyPro service offers all the features of the company's consumer-level product, MozyHome, in addition to several additional capabilities aimed at companies. For example, using MozyPro, businesses will be able to manage the backup of data from multiple computers from one centralized Web-based interface that allows administrators to select which files are backed up, on what schedule, and more.

MozyPro also offers storage pooling and the ability to back up data on mapped drives and network shares, as well as support for OS X Server applications such as iCalServer, Mail Services, and Directory. And, MozyHome, all backups are secured with either 128-bit SSL or 448-bit Blowfish encryption; in addition, MozyPro offers support for HTTPS proxies.

Since the reliability of business data is so critical, MozyPro also provides phone support twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

MozyPro for Mac supports Mac OS X 10.4, Mac OS X 10.5, and Mac OS X Server. Desktop and laptop licenses cost US$3.95 per machine and server licenses cost $6.95 per machine. There's also a charge of $0.50 per gigabyte per month in both cases.
